Recent political developments and growing censorship allegations on the X platform have triggered a new wave of digital migration. Following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, claims that numerous opposition accounts were restricted and some well-known public figures were completely removed from the platform have stirred public debate. In this climate, users began turning to alternative platforms where freedom of expression holds greater value—BlueSky quickly emerged as the new destination of this digital exodus. With its decentralized structure, transparent algorithm, and user-first content control, BlueSky has become a rising star in the search for freer online spaces.
The movement toward BlueSky wasn’t limited to everyday users—many celebrities also bid farewell to X, announcing their arrival in this new digital neighborhood. Between April 4–7, thousands of Turkish users reportedly joined BlueSky each day. In Turkey, increasing sensitivity toward digital freedom of expression shows that social media is no longer just a space for entertainment or news consumption; it is also becoming a platform where individuals seek to make their voices heard in a freer, less regulated environment. This new digital era seems poised to fundamentally reshape our social media habits.
