The story of Tony’s Chocolonely is not just the tale of a chocolate brand but also
a sweet representation of a global social justice movement.
Founded in the Netherlands in 2005, Tony’s Chocolonely was born as a result of
a journalistic investigation. Dutch journalist Teun van de Keuken, while researching
modern slavery and injustices in the cocoa industry, discovered that chocolate lovers
were unknowingly becoming complicit in this system. This realization inspired the
creation of Tony’s Chocolonely.
Tony’s primary goal is to eliminate injustices in the cocoa supply chain. The
brand name “Chocolonely” reflects its mission as a “lonely warrior” in this fight. Tony’s
is committed to fair trade practices, ensuring cocoa farmers are paid what they
deserve, and creating a transparent supply chain.
